Right now, you can fake a shiny, auto-tuned, & perfectly quantized song with technology. But no plug-in can give you real quality; that comes from the soul. Mixing music should bring the artist & the performance into focus.

I'm a music mixer who believes the sound is the song. Every band can find its audience if the recordings represent your vision & help the listener feel like they know you. My goal is to help your recordings match the music in your head. Contact me for audio solutions in music or podcasts.

The Digital Divide: Season 1 ... Season 2

Erick Deshaun Dorris brings us "The Digital Divide", an album that believes it's a TV show. There is no TV show. This album was completely tracked by Dorris using his iPod and keyboard (except for a snare drum on "Funeral Poem" performed by Dersu Burrows of Black Bear Combo), & mixed/mastered by C.Ezra Lange. The Digital Divide is a combination dance party and meditation filled with strong arrangements and melodies that will stay in your head.

  • Raw Vs Mixed

Here's a demonstration of the dramatic difference between unmixed & mixed music. In the first section of each track you will hear what I recorded [or the tracks I received]; the second half is what I delivered to the client. PLEASE NOTE: As a result of the mixing process, there is a significant volume change in the middle of the track, please set your computer volume accordingly.

    Musician Comments

    Geoff Burkhart

"Working with Ezra was a great experience. He really had a way of making the sounds in my head happen on a track; my vague ideas became concrete with his ability to intuit and his technical know how."

    Devin Bragulla

"Ezra was fantastic to work with! It's rare to find someone with such a broad understanding of music, an expert grasp of recording technology, & the flexibility to work with a wide range of musicians. I'd work with him again in a heartbeat."

    Anna Gregoline

"Ezra has been my recording, mixing, and tracking engineer on multiple, vastly different musical projects. While his professionalism was obvious, I could not have anticipated how essential he would be to the process of both recording and mixing. His expertise is astounding, his sensitivity to the artistic process impeccable, and his creative workarounds to overcome problems were numerous and impressive. Old-hat studio rats, new-to-the-process noise-makers, or extreme avant-garde artists - I highly recommend him for any and all types of music recording and mixing both in the field and in the studio."

    Woosung Alice

"I'm so grateful other musicians urged me to get in touch with Ezra. He is meticulous, intelligent, and intuitively understood what I was aiming for in the recording. He was also very patient with me, thoroughly addressing all my nit-picky concerns. The mixes had clarity, warmth, and presence, bringing out elements in my sound that I wasn't fully aware of before. I look forward to working with him on my next album!"

    Armando Perez

"Yo, this kid can handle whatever you throw at him. Ezra is an energetic performer with a great ear and solid creative ideas. On stage he is dynamic and experienced in multiple capacities. The same can be said in the studio, live recording, editing, and mixing. Work with him and watch your own understanding of music grow."

    Erick Deshaun Dorris

"I don't come across many people who match my passion around the work, but Ezra is one of the few. When I tell him what I am going to do, he responds critically. When I celebrate a success, he pushes me to do it again, and do it better. He is one of the most idiosyncratic people I have ever worked with. As a colleague, he is focused on continuous improvement and he is rarely satisfied. When I am putting together a creative team, Ezra is my first call 99% of the time. For the past 9 years, I have worked as both Ezra's supervisor, peer and have been in a support role on his teams. We've recorded music together, played in live ensembles together, filmed videos, designed websites, mixed albums and more. I am extremely proud, and grateful, for every project we've been able to work on."
